Boscoe Holder Print Collection

Boscoe Holder was born in the Caribbean island of Trinidad in the 1920’s. He established himself as a dancer and interpreter of indigenous Caribbean dance and cultural lore as well as a painter before moving to London in 1950. In London Holder formed a dance group performing Caribbean dances to audiences and Royalty and had his own television dance show on the B.B.C. As a painter, he exhibited in many prestigious venues. He returned to Trinidad in 1970 and concentrated mainly on painting. He died in 2007.
Holder’s forte was his depiction of Caribbean women, whose beauty he sought to elevate in his painting long before the phrase ‘black is beautiful’ was coined.
